I know H.265 is newer and supposed to use better compression algorithms and be smaller in size than H.264. If somehow that doesn't work, look at whats happening in your video at the time it freezes. Or, if you don't have to go to h.264, just stay in DNx. This gives less for your CPU to have to do all at once.
